Tokyo

Huge, crowded, shiny, colorful, bright, highlighted, overexcited, plugged, electric, eclectic... from its noisy avenues to its residential alleyways; from its modern buildings to its relaxing parks and temples; from its classy areas to the Tsukiji Fish Market...

Tokyo has it all: the huge dimensions of a city with no limits, a total mystery but an appealing attraction once you get time to discover it. We were warmly welcomed by Guillaume, a nice way for us to get accustomed to the contrasts of the capital. Now it's time for us to dive into the vibrant and pulsating Japanese turmoil.

Bright areas

By night and day, bright lights, shopping and lively atmosphere are the main interests of these Tokyo's lively districts: Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza, Roppongi, Akihabara. Areas as big as small cities, looking all alike, but very different in effect: various ambiances, inhabitants and entertainment styles.

Department stores and trendy bars, restaurants and karaoke, electrical devices shops and red light district… you find everything in these areas, even temples and Kabuki theatres. From one place to another, night and day, we have tried to feel a variety of atmospheres, all the same but all different. Actually, we have come to prefer one village to another, reaching an understanding of the different tribes in each place (Shibuya Girls, here we are).

Still one main common denominator between all these areas: the impression that life never stops here. Always in rebirth, perpetually alive.

Yet no wandering sensation here: people are moving in an organized pace, a controlled rhythm, thousands of determined people coming out from the subway stations, especially in Shibuya and Shinjuku. Everybody knows where to go and how to reach a resolute objective. We have tried to feel and follow the tempo of avenues and neon signs, which seem never to be switched off...
